                                                                                    Near Yorktown April 7th

Dear Ed,

                        I received your letter dated April 1st and was very glad to hear all were well. We are now 1-1/2 miles from Yorktown which we attack tomorrow (Monday).  It will be a big battle & etc. and I will let you know particulars in my next.  As regards myself everything is all right & etc & etc.  Give my love to Mother, Gus & all the folks.  Excuse writing as I am very busy issuing orders & etc & etc.
