Reverse

This silk national color carried by the 8th Regiment NY Volunteer Infantry includes 34 embroidered stars arranged in a star pattern in the canton. The canton on the opposite side includes the German tricolor, three horizontal silk bands of black, red, and gold. The regiment, composed mostly of Germans, received this flag in May 1861 from Amalie Struve on behalf of the German ladies of the City of New York.
