The New York State Battle Flag Collection includes one blue silk flank marker carried by the 178th Regiment NY Volunteer Infantry. The flag features painted inscriptions and gold-colored fringe. Approximately one-third of the flag is missing including the painted oval device in the center where the regiment's numeric designation once appeared. The silk fabric is split throughout.
