On September 18, 1862, at Camp Arthur, Staten Island, Colonel Leonard Currie and the 133rd Regiment NY Volunteer Infantry received the regimental color seen here from the citizens of New York City through Captain John J. Mount, Metropolitan Police. The regiment carried the color on campaign through October 1864. Ball, Black & Company, a jewelry firm on Broadway, New York City, manufactured the flag. The blue silk color features an embroidered federal eagle, in flight clutching a national flag in its beak, and embroidered battle honors, added later, commemorating the regiment's service.
