166th Infantry Regiment

Mustered in: Failed to complete organization.

The following is taken from New York in the War of the Rebellion, 3rd ed. Frederick Phisterer. Albany: J. B. Lyon Company, 1912. 
September 2, 1862, Col. Isaac Wood Jr., receive authority to recruit this regiment in the then 9th Senatorial District of the State, with headquarters at Goshen. September 13, the headquarters were transferred to Middletown' authority was also granted to enroll men for nine months' service. November 13, 1862, the regiment showing no prospect of early completion, the men enlisted were transferred to the 176th Infantry, and the organization discontinued.

One Hundred and Sixty-sixth Infantry.—This regiment failed to complete its organization and its number is accordingly vacant. The men enlisted were transferred to the 176th N.Y. infantry on Nov. 13, 1862.
