50th Regiment, New York National Guard

The following is taken from New York in the War of the Rebellion, 3rd ed. Frederick Phisterer. Albany: J. B. Lyon Company, 1912. 

Companies A and B of this regiment, which is not now in existence, located then at Ithaca and Ulysses, commanded by Capts. Charles F. Blood and Stephen Clough, respectively, were mustered in the service of the United States, at Elmira, for a period of 100 days, September 2, 1864. They served at Elmira, as Companies L and M, 58th Militia, and were there mustered out, December 2, 1864.

Abstract: Correspondence, rosters, certificates, and notes relating to military organization in Ithaca, New York during the Civil War. Primarily addressed to Harvey Dowe, the letters pertain to the following matters: enrollment of volunteers in the 50th Regiment, court martials, Special Orders from the Office of the Adjutant General (in Albany, New York), uniforms, and arms. Other papers include lists of elected officials, a muster roll, Certificates of Appointments of Enrolling Officers, election and appointment returns (of officers), notes of parental consent (to enlist), and military instructions.
Harvey A. Dowe was a colonel in the 50th Regiment of the New York State National Guard. In 1863 he was appointed Brigadier General and was authorized to organize a 28th Brigade of the National Guard, to be comprised of men from Tompkins, Tioga, and Broome counties. The following year a special order added Chemung and Schuyler counties to Dowe's command.
