Description: (1): Fort Cummings was initially a temporary construction built by American forces in 1779 during the Revolutionary War. The fort was built in Ontario County at the foot of Honeoye Lake, and was named for the base’s commander, John Cummings. It was promptly abandoned in the years following the conflict. (2): In 1814, Fort Cummings was built in King’s County, Brooklyn. The fort, come the end of the War of 1812, was abandoned just a year after its construction, in 1815. The fortress was armed with a 12-pounder cannon and was built upon a Revolutionary War Era construction known as Oblong Redoubt.
